Language and attacks

Two problems have come to light lately, both of which will not be tolerated.

The first is racist language. If we see it, the first offense will get a seven day ban, the second will get a permanent ban. All posts will obviously be deleted. If anyone sees any posts, please report them.

Another problem is inter-personal sniping. Enough already. If you don't like a post, respond to the facts. If you don't like a person, put it in a private message or email. DO NOT PUT THIS ON THE FORUMS.

We will start warning and banning if this continues.

Basically, have a sense of decorum, if you don't then don't be surprised you will not be welcome by the other members nor administration.

Yes, we get enormous numbers of rabid fanboys and other such fun on these forums. We have a low tolerance and hard moderation because we want our members to be able to discuss tech. Don't make it personal, prove you want to talk tech, ask reasonable questions and you just might find that some very technical people from the industry will answer your questions here.

An OT but important bit. A significant number of our readers use dial-up to read S|A and the forums. If you guys could restrict your pictures to either a) relevant card/die/roadmap pics or put all the pics of funny stuff/cats/pretty girls in the Off Topic or Flamewars section that would be appreciated.

Giving a shout out to the guys in El Salvador (we're ranked like 800th in their country!) And some of those guys are on dialup

They made a bet that increasing the programmability and double precision performance would not cost them so much, and they have lost that bet. On the other hand, Fermi is the most programmable GPU ever made and also will deliver the greatest DP performance per dollar and per watt, by a large margin, for certain HPC applications.

We can kick Nvidia for being wrong, but many scientists will benefit from the risk they took, so we shouldn't be eager to do so.

If you have such a complaint or comment I would make one request: Go read your news elsewhere and find out the same information 8 months later when other sources and news outlets actually gather information. Or maybe a month later for some news or a year later for other news (such as Nvidia' chipset division closure) It varies, but if you have such a complaint please, don't read us, read elsewhere.

An additional note to all of you who write complaining that you were warned or got a temporary ban but so-and-so did not. Let me tell you, your mother may have tolerated you blaming others for your behavior but we do not. Either you follow the forum rules or you get hit with a warning or ban.

If you feed the trolls or contribute to derailing a thread, that is a rule violation that can carry the same weight as swearing up and down and generally being an offensive prick.

That said, you need to refrain from bad behavior, report the post that you are tempted to respond to. Then the grandmas have a chance to clean up the thread and keep it on subject. Humor is the ONE exception to this unless it's a couple of pages of only humor and no substantive discussion. Once there is a warning within the thread itself to return to topic and there IS no return to topic then warnings/bans will be handed out.

So no, I don't care if you think someone else did worse than you. This is about YOUR behavior and YOU following the rules. If you want grandmas to enforce the rules on someone else you have a duty as a forum member to report the post that violates the rules.
