AFTER LITERALLY YEARS of silence, the new Monkey Island game is out. Yes, mere weeks after revealing it’s existence at E3, you can now get the first episode from Telltale games.
8-bit it ain’t, good it looks
Almost two decades after the original Secret of Monkey Island, and a little before the official Lucasarts HD remake, Telltale brings us a new series based on timeless classic. The first episode, now out, is called Tales of Monkey Island Chapter One: “Launch of the Screaming Narwal”.
As with all the Telltale games, this one is going to be released in five episodes each about a month apart. The cost for all five is $34.95, and when they are all out, you will get a DVD in the mail for the cost of shipping.
If history is any guide, Telltale does a very good job of not only resurrecting, but enhancing the classic point and click adventures of old. Season One of Sam and Max, their first homage to the Lucasarts games of old, was a lot of fun but a little rough around the edges. By season two, the bugs were worked out of the genre, and it was simply a lot of fun.
That learning went into Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People and Wallace and Grommit’s Grand adventures. With multiple successful titles and a lot of experience in the adventure genre under their belt, Tales of Monkey Island looks like it could be well worth the money.
If you just want to try it out, there is a demo available on the left side of this page. Enjoy.S|A
