Nvidia launches GeForce GTX 560 Ti

Receives very positive reviews

TODAY NVIDIA UNVEILED its latest addition to the GeForce 500 series of GPUs with the introduction of the GeForce GTX 560 Ti. What we’re looking at is a $250 graphics card with performance figures that should make it a very appealing upper mid-range card, well, at least until AMD’s price cut takes effect in the retail market.

The early leaks seem to have been spot on in terms of the specifications, as we’re looking at an 822MHz GPU with the 384 shaders operating at 1645MHz and memory at 4008MHz. The GTX 560 Ti draws 170W according to Nvidia and as such has a pair of 6-pin power connectors. Nvidia’s MSRP is $250 and most cards that have gone on sale so far are listed at $249.99, although pre-overclocked cards retail for as much as $279.99, but considering that some are sold at the MSRP, there would be little point to pay extra for it.

As for reviews, the GTX 560 Ti seems to be going away with awards left, right and centre, especially when it comes to value for money. It’s also considered a far superior card to the older GTX 460, despite being more expensive in terms of launch pricing. The only real complaint is that Nvidia has fitted the GTX 560 Ti with a power draw limiter which might prove unpopular with some overclockers.

AMD did of course announce its price “recalibration” today which puts the Radeon HD 6870 at $219, the 1GB Radeon HD 6950 at $259 an the 2GB version at somewhere between $269 and $289. A slightly sneaky, but not unexpected move by AMD and the company is also said to be releasing new drivers for the Radeon HD 6000 series that “will bring about considerable performance improvements” according to TechPowerUp.S|A
