AMD’s Chuck Moore has passed away

Tech has lost one of it’s brightest lights

AMD - logoIt is with great sadness that we bring you the news that Chuck Moore, AMD Fellow and all around great guy has passed away. SemiAccurate has been flooded with emails about Chuck’s passing from colleagues and friends, it is truly an outpouring of sadness that one rarely sees anymore.

In addition to being one of the nicest people in tech, Chuck Moore was also one of the brightest, having been involved in some of the industry’s most innovative chips and products. His shoes will be hard to fill, if they can be filled at all, the CPU world would have been very different without him.

AMD released a brief statement today saying, “AMD Corporate Fellow Chuck Moore passed away this week after a battle with cancer. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family at this difficult time. He actively evangelized AMD to the technical, academic and investor community. As an engineer, Chuck knew what made technology work. But he also knew how to bring ideas and people together. He spent a long and distinguished career not only as a technology innovator and visionary, but also as a mentor and leader. He will be truly missed.”

Similar sentiment was expressed privately by many other mutual friends, co-workers, and even competitors. His official obituary can be found here, and he requested that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in lieu of flowers. He will be sorely missed by all.S|A
