AMD Aims for the Server Market with Naples and Snowy Owl

What do a City in Italy and bird have to do with servers?

2015 AMD LogoAMD is preparing to launch two new server chips going by the names of Naples and Snowy Owl around the middle of next year. These chips will both be built on Global Foundries 14nm FinFET process which is licensed from Samsung. Naples is the product codename for the design that the high-end parts are based on and Snowy Owl is the low-end part. Both chips are constructed from the Zepplin die which we first pictured back in May and is referred to as Summit Ridge on the desktop. With Naples AMD believes that it can address 85 percent of the volume of the two socket server market.
