Default AMD Japan spilled more beans on next-gen AMD platforms for 2011

(Source: AMD Aniki - Doi Kentarou's Seminar @ DIY PC Expo 2009 - Rakuten Blog)
(Aniki, 兄貴, lit. trans. from Japanese: elder brother/one's senior)

Summary:

2011 desktop platform
  • Enthusiast platform Scorpius (>95W):
    CPU: Zambezi >= 4 cores @ 32 nm
    Chipset: RD890+SB8xx
GPU: Northern Islands @ 32 nm (*hugs Charlie*)

  • Mainstream platform Lynx (45-95W):
    Llano APU: STARS Core+Integrated GPU+Integrated PCIe Gen 2 @ 32 nm
Chipset: Hudson-D series southbridge (Hudson for Desktop)
    IGP: DirectX 11, UVD 3.0
Discrete GPU: Northern Islands @ 32 nm

(Source: see above)

2011 notebook platform
  • Mainstream and Ultrathin platform Sabine (>35W, µPGA for Mainstream platform; 20-35W, BGA for ultrathin platform):
    Llano APU: STARS Core+Integrated GPU+Integrated PCIe Gen 2 @ 32 nm
    Chipset: Hudson series southbridge
    IGP: DirectX 11, UVD 3.0
Discrete GPU: Northern Islands @ 32 nm
    Battery life: >7 Hours

  • And a platform Brazos (<20W, BGA, for new markets, targeting both desktops* and notebooks*):
Ontario APU: Up to 2 Bobcat cores @ 4x nm (too blurry, I would guess 40 nm)
    Chipset: Hudson series southbridge
    IGP: DirectX 11, UVD 3.0
Discrete GPU: Northern Islands @ 32 nm
    Battery life: >7 Hours

And from that presentation, Manhattan (probably named "Mobility Radeon HD 5000 series") which is due 2010 is 32 nm. Now that's a surprise.
And notice the fabrication process used for Evergreen family is omitted from the roadmap...
While the codename Bobcat appears once again, and referred to as a "CPU core", does this mean the return of "old Bobcat"?

Well, AMD Japan just spilled the beans. Guesstimations/estimations go ahead!

*Note: read nettops and netbooks.

Fits very well with what we already know. Thanks very much.

Northern Islands is what Charlie told us, as you noticed.

32nm graphics must be SOI, because Llano is monolithic and it doesn't make sense to make both SOI and bulk graphics for a new generation. So that means the 2010 Manhattan graphics are SOI too. Although I thought Manhattan was the mobile 5000 series, so I think that's wrong and it's 40nm.

Llano being STARS means Agena/Deneb class cores, as expected.

I think this rules out a 32nm Agena/Deneb shrink before 2011, otherwise it would be listed.

If Ontario is 40nm, that means the CPU core is bulk silicon - which would fit for a low power CPU core type. Bobcat must be designed for bulk. For that reason AMD could also integrate this with other embedded IP to create SoC designs.

Also, "2nd Gen UT" is a rename after "Congo" caused contention.

It looks like AMD has really turned up the focus on the 'platform'. These look very interesting and if all goes as it appears should be killer products.

Also, it does appear that GF's roadmap shows their 32nm SOI super high performance node to include graphics. It is supposed to start risk production in the middle of next year so AMD's upcomming mobile GPU's must get a shrink from 40nm to 32nm. But that would be crossing over to a different foundry. When is TSMC's 32nm process due, because AMD says their next mobile GPU's are due in Jan next year. It's all very interesting!!!

Oh, and Zambezi is just a killer brand for the enthusiast cpu's. I'd buy one just for the name!

Another thing:
Notice the fabrication process used for Evergreen family is omitted from the roadmap...

Can I decipher this as the Evergreen will have a 32 nm variant like the RV740?

And exciting stuff:

(Source: same as #1)

Wanna play "Space Invaders" in Excel with 86156 aliens and a 7680x3200 screen resolution, and you are suppose to hit them all to win?

Well, I guess the next gen Northern Islands codename is finally out in the open We'll see when the next-next gen codename comes out.

What I want to know is what socket will zambezi use?

I'm still using a windsor, and DFI, bless its officers' hearts, won't support the phenom II series on my mainboard.

I don't want to upgrade to thuban if that is the end of the line for AM3.
