NVIDIA HAS BEEN a little bit behind AMD when it comes to adding multi-display support on a single card, but it seems like one of its partners have gone and at least made things a bit more interesting. Zotac has announced its GeForce GTX 460 3DP card today which features no less than three DisplayPort connectors as well as a DVI port for some quad display action for resolutions of up to 6400×1200.

HP MIGHT BE a US company at heart, but it seems like the company has decided to invest a fairly sizable chunk of cash in a new R&D centre in Taiwan to the tune of $112.5 million. The money will be spread out over a three year investment for what will be known as the “Computing Hub” which will focus on R&D for computers and mobile devices.

AMD IS LAUNCHING a host of new chips, basically speed bumps on what was available. Don’t expect miracles, just that things are a little faster on the high end, and the ones you wanted to buy are now a little cheaper.

NVIDIA HAS BEEN very clear that it is sticking with TSMC as it’s only foundry partner, Jen-Hsun himself was adamant that it wasn’t in the cards. Unfortunately, that statement was as real as the cards he held up a year ago.

WE’VE SPENT A fair bit of time over the last month pondering the upcoming Radeon series from AMD. Specifically, the card which is rumored to be the 6770 is of interest. Sure the bigger cards get the crowns and bigger fanfare but this should be a card that most of us are more likely to buy given the price ranges.

RUMOURS ARE SUGGESTING that HTC is readying its first Android tablet and it’s said to be powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 SoC which features an ARM Cortex-A9 dual core processor. This would indeed be a major design win for Nvidia, especially as it seems like the company is struggling to find partners that are willing to take on its Tegra 2 SoC.

INTEL HAS JUST proven without a doubt that its CPUs are artificially restricted by launching a pilot scheme which allows owners of certain specific OEM systems to buy a scratch card and upgrade their CPU by entering a code. If this isn’t the rip-off of the century, then we don’t know what is.

IT HAD TO happen sooner or later, Intel is starting to put out 25nm flash chips. At IDF last week, prototype chips were spotted on a prototype drive with a prototype Sandforce SSD controller.

BY NOW WE can establish one thing, SSDs aren’t going to get any slower. PhotoFast might not be the most well-known SSD maker out there, but this Taiwanese company is very popular in the Japanese market. Its latest additions won’t be available until next month and we’d expect there’ll be a pretty high price premium, but such is the case if you want to live on the cutting edge.

ADDONICS IS A COMPANY that makes all sorts of storage related computer accessories and more often than not they have some quirky kit that you can’t really find elsewhere. Its latest addition is the aptly named Compact RAID which is a small box that takes five 2.5-inch SATA drives and RAIDs them.

THE MAKER OF designer computer accessories – LaCie – has come up with a new device called the Wireless Space which as an intriguing combination of a wireless router and a NAS with a few other features thrown in for good measure. As with most of LaCie’s products, the Wireless Space features a very distinct design and although in this case it happens to be a black brick rather than something a bit more unusual, the plain design is actually quite appealing.

THERE ARE ALREADY a few USB 3.0 Flash drives on sale, but it looks like we might be getting some more affordable solutions once VLI’s VL750 controller hits the market as in typical VIA fashion, this new controller should be more affordable than what’s currently available. That is, of course, pending USB-IF certification, but hopefully this shouldn’t be too much of a problem for VIA to gain.

WHAT APPEARS TO be a slide from an AMD presentation about its upcoming GPUs has made its way onto the web once again via Chiphell and it gives away just about everything except the price of AMD’s upcoming Barts GPUs. AMD is putting these two parts up against Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 460 models and it will be interesting to see how they compare both in terms of performance and pricing.
