Some of these NAS devices can do more than just back up your data which should prove to be a neat bonus to smaller companies.

DURING THE INTEL Storage Solution Forums yesterday, the company was keen to point out that from next year we’ll see widespread adoption of 10Gbit Ethernet in the server environment. The main reason for this coming uptake in 10Gbit Ethernet according to Intel is that it will launch a transceiver that will be implemented on server motherboards, rather than needing an add-on card.

NVIDIA HAS SOME interesting numbers in its GTX480 presentations, but just like the Heaven benchmark numbers, they don’t seem to reflect reality. This latest ‘accident’ in an official presentation centers around Dirt2.

NVIDIA IS TWISTING the arms of e-tailers over GTX480s, forcing them to clean out the warehouses of old inventory if they want the new cards. If you want any allocations of the GTX470 or GTX480, be prepared to buy lots of low end cards.

BIT-TECH HAS POSTED some early impressions of AMD’s upcoming entry level 880G chipset and the word unimpressed springs to mind. Although the IGP has been renamed Radeon HD 4250, it’s said to offer no performance advantages over the older Radeon HD 3200 IGP of the 780G.

IT’S BEEN JUST over three months since VIA announced a new chipset and today we’re looking at yet another new chipset from the company, although this time it’s for mobile devices rather than desktops. It’s a shame that the new VX900 chipset didn’t get the full feature set of the VN1000, but it’s not all bad news, as VIA finally has a mobile solution that should kick the Atom’s ass.

NINTENDO DOESN’T EVEN have an HD capable console as yet, but the company has today announced its intention to launch a 3D capable handheld gaming device that doesn’t require you to wear any glasses. The 3DS as Nintendo is calling it for now is set to be unveiled at E3 which kicks off on the 15th of June.

MSI WAS SHOWING off its 890FX board at CeBIT a couple of weeks ago, but we’ve now managed to score the first official pictures of the 890FXA-GD70 board. All we can say is that it looks like MSI has a winner on its hands and this should be worth a look for anyone that’s considering getting one of AMD’s upcoming Phenom II X6 processors.

THE ONE DOWNSIDE of Intel’s Extreme Edition CPUs that makes most people shy away from them is the sky high price tag, but it looks like Intel is getting ready to take a leaf out of AMD’s book by releasing what will hopefully be more cost conscious overclocking CPUs with unlocked multiplier carrying the K suffix.

INTEL IS SAID to be shipping 20 percent more chipsets than CPUs which makes for a fairly skewed ratio, as most users would upgrade their CPU, not their motherboard. In this case though it turns out that it’s the motherboard manufacturers that are hoping for better times and are placing large chipset orders with Intel.

Instead it seems like most of the motherboard manufacturers are pushing out some pretty serious hardware in the mini-ITX form factor, which has yet to take off in the consumer space outside of Atom systems.
