THE VIA NANO CPU has been out for quite some time now, but we haven’t seen a lot of products based on it so far. We spotted an interesting mini ITX board over at Gigabyte that will hopefully find its way into some interesting devices such as media players/HTPCs in the near future.

IF YOU READ Charlie’s piece on Tuesday about the ability of Gigabyte’s new X58 UD9 board being able to deliver 1500W to the CPU socket and figured that’s something you need, then you’ll be glad to know that the same technology is being rolled out across its entire range. The feature is called Unlocked Power and allows for more power to be delivered to the CPU socket, although only the UD9 can do 1500W.

THE EVGA MOTHERBOARD team story is starting to unfold as we’ve found out more details about what’s going on. It turns out that the team did indeed leave and they left because they had a better offer from none other than graphics card maker Sapphire.

WE DIDN’T QUITE get Asus’ Immensity R.O.G. board that we spotted on Tuesday at Computex, but Asus held a special event earlier today talking more about its new motherboards and the Immensity was one of the products that it covered. We had a chance to speak with the product manager and he told us that the board might not actually make it into a final retail product in its current form.

PLEXTOR MIGHT NOT be one of the big players in the SSD market space, but the company is now readying its first SATA 6Gbps SSD and we’ve got some early benchmark figures to share with you, as well as some details of the new drive family.

YOU MIGHT VERY well own, or at least have owned, a graphics card with memory from Etron Technology, or even some low cost DDR2 memory modules. However, the company has now started to move away from making DRAM and decided to start making USB 3.0 host controllers. By now you might start to say “not another one” but bear with us and you’ll see that these guys mean serious business.

WE HAVE IT on very good authority; in fact we heard it from the horse’s mouth so to say, that EVGA has run into a bit of a problem, as its motherboard team has decided to depart. This is not good news when you’re a company that design your own motherboards, especially when you consider how few motherboard design companies that are left standing today.

SINCE LAST COMPUTEX, Corsair has become a much more serious player in the case market and its latest addition, the Graphite series 600T, should really give the established players a good run for their money. Also on show was a new range of power supplies, some new CPU coolers and Corsair’s new AirFlow Pro memory cooling solution with activity LEDs.

MINI-ITX IS WITHOUT a doubt a hugely popular form factor these days and we spotted three new boards at the Asus booth. Two of them have an Atom processor, one uses ION 2 for graphics and the third is based on AMD’s 880G chipset. All have some rather unique features and selling points, depending on your needs.

COMPUTEX IS ALWAYS full of surprises, but Asus’s new Immensity motherboard which is part of its R.O.G. series of boards is something that we didn’t expect to see. It’s based on Intel’s X58 chipset and has all the usual trimmings you’d expect on such a board, with two unusual additions – Lucid’s Hydra and an onboard ATI GPU with dedicated graphics memory.

USUALLY AT COMPUTEX companies hold a press release to announce new products. This year Nvidia did announce a lot of things, but we couldn’t quite figure out what was new and none of what was announced appeared to be Nvidia products, although the announcements did somehow seem to involve Nvidia and its products.

ALTHOUGH COMPUTEX DOESN’T start officially until tomorrow, we ran past Gigabyte’s booth to get some more details on the convertible M1125 notebook. It will launch with Core i5 UM processors, although we don’t know which CPU model it’ll have, as the M1125 isn’t set to launch until August.

THE DAYS BEFORE Computex don’t tend to be as hectic as they’ve been this year, but it might have to do something with the local companies wanting as much attention as possible ahead of the show, as the past year hasn’t exactly been great for most of them. Gigabyte’s notebook division has unveiled a few details on its new 11.6-inch convertible notebook that will be launched at the show, alongside the first picture of the M1125.

THE ORIGINAL ACER Revo was and might possibly still be the best selling ION nettop to date. Now it looks like Acer is getting ready to revamp its Revo product line and it looks like we’ll be seeing quite a lot of new additions that aren’t strictly PC’s as well. Acer has revealed some details about its new products at an event in Beijing, China today, although we’d expect that the nitty-gritty details will be divulged at Computex next week.

WI-FI HAS BECOME something of a ubiquitous standard these days, as pretty much every notebook, smartphone and even a lot of consumer electronics feature Wi-Fi connectivity these days. However, Wi-Fi can’t really compare to wired Ethernet when it comes to performance, well, that’s unless you’re using a Quantenna Communications based product with 4×4 MIMO.
