THERE ARE ALREADY a few USB 3.0 Flash drives on sale, but it looks like we might be getting some more affordable solutions once VLI’s VL750 controller hits the market as in typical VIA fashion, this new controller should be more affordable than what’s currently available. That is, of course, pending USB-IF certification, but hopefully this shouldn’t be too much of a problem for VIA to gain.

WHAT APPEARS TO be a slide from an AMD presentation about its upcoming GPUs has made its way onto the web once again via Chiphell and it gives away just about everything except the price of AMD’s upcoming Barts GPUs. AMD is putting these two parts up against Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 460 models and it will be interesting to see how they compare both in terms of performance and pricing.

SANDFORCE DIDN’T HAVE any new products to show off at IDF, but there was a very cool new toy using their controller on display. It is called the SATADIMM, and it is an SSD in DIMM form factor.

IT APPEARS AS if ASRock has set its mind on becoming serious competitor in the mini PC market and its latest addition, the Vision 3D 135B looks like a huge step in the right direction compared to its previous attempts. Not only has ASRock come up with a much better looking chassis, but this time they’ve also added discrete graphics in the shape of a mobile GeForce GT 425M, alongside a mobile Intel Core i3 370M processor.

NOT EVERYONE LIKES to use a mouse and touchpads are something of a hit and miss depending on what you prefer. The third alternative, the good old trackball is still around for those that are looking for a different way to control their computer and Logitech has announced a new model today in the Wireless Trackball M570. The new model features a tweaked design which should make it more comfortable to hold than the older TrackMan Wheel and Logitech has also added a few other new features.

SUPERTALENT LAUNCHED THEIR new USB3 Express drive with an added DRAM cache last week. The real question is whether or not the DRAM caches added any real performance or it is just a marketing ploy.

GIGABYTE WAS SHOWING off not one but two P67 based enthusiast mobos at IDF this week, and both looked really good. As soon as Sandy Bridge comes out, the enthusiast community is going to be well supplied with boards.

DISPLAYLINK HAD a beta version of their monitor over USB3 hardware running on the floor of IDF this year, and some other goodies too. Just because USB3 is on the horizon doesn’t mean USB2 devices are standing still.

THE SECOND KEYNOTE of IDF was given by Dadi Perlmutter, and it focused on Sandy Bridge, and the uses that it enables. There is a lot you can do with 2 256-bit AVX vector units for voice, video and other data intensive streams.

SOMEWHAT UNEXPECTED, MSI announced a custom GTX 480 graphics cards at its MOA event this weekend and as far as we’re aware, this is the most extreme GTX 480 card, so far. It’s also a rather gimmicky card, but at least as a limited edition product it does bring something different to the market.

NVIDIA HAS UNVEILED its latest addition to its 400-series of graphics cards with today’s introduction of the GeForce GTS 450, a card that’s set to be a direct replacement of the GTS 250. Every single Nvidia partner – including a few we weren’t even aware of – have announced cards today and just about all of them have launched both stock cards as well as overclocked versions for a an extra price premium.

INTEL HAD TWO video recognition demos at a pre-IDF event Sunday, one on low power remote facial recognition, the other called Oasis. Neither one did anything really new, it was just a matter of how things were done instead of the end result.
