TI WAS SHOWING off a bunch of USB3 goodies at IDF, with hubs, cards and a re-transmission chip on the, err, cards. Some are USB certified, others will be soon.

INPHI WAS SHOWING off working 32GB LRDIMMs at IDF this year, upping maxing the memory of a Nehalem-EP system with only 2/3rds of the slots filled. If you want more than a mere 384GB in your box, you can up that to up that to 8TB of DRAM with an 8-way Beckton box.

INTEL HAS JUST proven without a doubt that its CPUs are artificially restricted by launching a pilot scheme which allows owners of certain specific OEM systems to buy a scratch card and upgrade their CPU by entering a code. If this isn’t the rip-off of the century, then we don’t know what is.

IT HAD TO happen sooner or later, Intel is starting to put out 25nm flash chips. At IDF last week, prototype chips were spotted on a prototype drive with a prototype Sandforce SSD controller.

THE MAKER OF designer computer accessories – LaCie – has come up with a new device called the Wireless Space which as an intriguing combination of a wireless router and a NAS with a few other features thrown in for good measure. As with most of LaCie’s products, the Wireless Space features a very distinct design and although in this case it happens to be a black brick rather than something a bit more unusual, the plain design is actually quite appealing.
