Skype goes HD video calling

Adds support for selected HDTVs

SKYPE HAS ANNOUNCED not only support for HD video calls in Beta 4.2 for Windows, but the company also intends to bring Skype to HDTVs from LG and Panasonic. HD in this case is 720p video and currently there aren’t any webcams on the market that seem to be compatible with the new HD video service. This is despite the fact that there are manufacturers out there with 720p capable devices already.

VIA is first with a USB 3.0 hub controller

USB 3.0 IS SLOWLY gaining ground and we’re seeing more and more devices being announced. VIA has just announced what it claims to be the first USB 3.0 hub controller and we have no reason to doubt it. Whether it’s needed is another matter altogether, but as always with new technology, there’s the chicken and egg effect and if no one brings out the chips for the bits that people are going to want, then no one’s going to buy into the technology.

EVGA HAS MANAGED to gain a fair bit of fame for its unusual and often quite good motherboards, but its latest creation that was sneak previewed on Twitter a couple of days ago is a monster of a motherboard. Not only does it feature two LGA1366 CPU sockets, but it also has six memory slots and seven PCI Express x16 slots. However, there’s one slight problem with this board, it uses a proprietary form factor.

Asus gets overexcited, starts selling H57 boards

IF YOU KNOW where to ask, you can get your hands on motherboards with Intel’s upcoming H57 chipset. Well, at least you can if you happen to live in Taipei. We headed down to the Guanghua computer market earlier today after having been told that some of the shops were selling H57 motherboards from Asus ahead of the official launch on the 7th of January next year.

IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING, but VIA has finally gotten around to releasing a new chipset with a serious boost to the feature set. This might be just the shove VIA’s Nano processor has been waiting for to make it a serious Intel Atom competitor. In saying that, we’re less than a month away from Intel’s new Atom processors with integrated graphics, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
