LUCIDLOGIX HAS STARTED to ship its Virtu GPU virtualization software to motherboard partners that will enable automatic switching between the onboard graphics in Intel’s Sandy Bridge sorry, second generation Core processors and a discrete graphics card. Despite it having been nearly two months since the initial announcements, thanks to a little SATA bug, it seems like LucidLogix didn’t need to rush out its software, as currently there’s something of a shortage on suitable motherboards in the shops.

ST-ERICSSON MIGHT NOT be a name that many of us are affiliating with high-end SoC’s for mobile devices, but as of lately the company has changed gears and is getting ready to take on the big players such as Qualcomm and TI. The latest announcement from ST-Ericsson includes a wide range of new models, but the most interesting one is the upcoming Nova A9600 SoC which should be sampling towards the end of the year with PowerVR Series6 graphics.

IF YOU’VE EVER watched a piece of video, no matter the source or quality, on a handheld device, tablet or notebook, well heck, even on a desktop or TV in your home, you’ll have run into one problem that just about every LCD screen suffers from, poor contrast ratio. We bumped into a company at the MWC called Apical that might just be about to fix this problem for good, as they’ve worked out a very different way of improving the contrast ratio compared to current solutions.

TOSHIBA IS DOING something unusual with their laptops, branching out into far more niche-y product lines. They also showed off a bunch of glasses-free 3D TVs at CES as well, although these were far from impressive.

HATS OFF TO Intel for pulling one of the most devious PR spin and coverups of the year with their chipset problems explanation. While it may be a desperate and masterful obfuscation job, if you poke a little under the surface, you can see how badly they screwed up, and how little of the truth actually came out.

TODAY NVIDIA UNVEILED its latest addition to the GeForce 500 series of GPUs with the introduction of the GeForce GTX 560 Ti. What we’re looking at is a $250 graphics card with performance figures that should make it a very appealing upper mid-range card, well, at least until AMD’s price cut takes effect in the retail market.
