TODAY NVIDIA LAUNCHED YET another Nvidia GeForce R-series card, short for rebrand, but that is not the only one. At CES, Nvidia will launch the GF119 along with a whole series of all new rebrands.

IT DIDN’T TAKE long for Nvidia to announce its first mobile GeForce 500-series part and the GeForce GT 540M is what brings its mobile GPU’s forward a generation, or does it? Considering that pretty much all of the specifications are the same as the GeForce GT 435M, bar some adjustments in clock speed, this seems to be yet another rebrand to please its OEM partners, albeit this time it appears to be a China exclusive.

THE GEFORCE 570 isn’t expected to launch until next week Tuesday, but pricing of the new cards are already starting to leak out around the world. The price spread seems to be quite wide depending on the model and how much the card in question has been overclocked, although considering the price premium; it might make more sense to overclock the card on your own.

In the spirit of the season, Rambus Inc. is giving out another round of subpoenas to all of its friends in the tech industry. Most interesting among the defendants perhaps is nVidia, who only months ago signed a licensing agreement with Rambus to end an ITC blockade of its products, (virtually their whole portfolio), which infringed on Rambus’s patents. If IBM has its way, QPI and HyperTransport are about to look about as fast as your mom’s 56K modem. It seems that copper interconnects are simply not good enough anymore, and IBM researchers have developed a way to incorporate nano-scale CMOS optical devices onto the same slab of silicon your old-and-busted electron based transistors are fabbed on. This allows chips to use pulses of light to communicate with each other rather than electrical signals to achieve some mind boggling bandwidth numbers.

1 year and 1 month after the launch of the Radeon HD 5800 series, the Radeon HD 6800 series is unleashed upon the world. This new line of graphics cards from AMD consists of the Radeon HD 6870, and 6850. Retail prices for these cards are $239 and $179, respectively. However, despite the names, and as their prices imply, these cards are not intended to replace the Radeon HD 5870 and 5850. The replacements for these cards will come at a later date and shall be reviewed at that time. This marks a change in both nomenclature and product positioning for AMD, which will be explained later in this article.
