WE’VE SEEN MULTIPLE DEMOS of a wide range of Tegra based devices ranging from small handheld media players to smartbooks. With the single exception of Microsoft’s Zune HD, we have yet to see any other Tegra powered devices hit retail, yet Nvidia is already getting ready to talk about Tegra 2 at CES.

IT’S REALLY SAD that it has come to this, but YouTube is considering charging for certain content. It appears that Google isn’t happy with the way things are going with its purchase, as despite being the most popular video site on the interweb, YouTube isn’t making Google any money. In fact, YouTube is losing money, a lot of money and Google has started to look at other ways of getting content onto its video site.

ACCORDING TO MULTIPLE REPORTS, it looks like Asus might be getting ready to pull the plug on its motherboard business unit. This might sound like a very drastic move by Asus, but with the Pegatron spinoff as a separate business entity, it might just make long term sense. It’s hardly news that Asus is aspiring to become something more and has long had its sights on becoming the next Acer. This might seem to be an odd goal, but Acer has been a phenomenally successful company.

ONCE IN A WHILE some yet to be announced processors make their way into the hands of the media and rarely will this hardware sit around untested when this occurs. In this case, Chinese website Zol.com.cn got its hands on what appears to be a Core i7 810 processor, although the model name doesn’t really make sense.

CHINA SEEMS TO BE LEAKING all sorts of Intel roadmaps these days and details of Intel’s upcoming 6-core high-end consumer CPU based on the Gulftown core, alongside details of several other new CPUs, have made their way online. As expected, the first consumer version of the Gulftown core will be an Extreme Edition CPU and it looks like it will be called the Core i7 980X Extreme Edition.

WHILE LOOKING FOR something related, we bumped into a set of Atom D510 and D410 benchmarks by chance on a website that we weren’t familiar with. German website CarTFT.com has kindly provided a small glimpse into the performance of Intel’s upcoming single and dual core desktop Atom processors and the numbers aren’t exactly what we’d call impressive.

DON’T YOU JUST LOVE IT when technology companies leak their upcoming products unintentionally? Well, Acer has come through and given us a better insight into Intel’s upcoming Atom N450 processor as well as its own netbook based on the new platform. There are a couple of surprises such as a 10.1-inch 720p display and of course Intel’s new GMA3150 integrated graphics processor (IGP).

IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING, but VIA has finally gotten around to releasing a new chipset with a serious boost to the feature set. This might be just the shove VIA’s Nano processor has been waiting for to make it a serious Intel Atom competitor. In saying that, we’re less than a month away from Intel’s new Atom processors with integrated graphics, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

ACER’S CHAIRMAN, JT Wang has come up with a simple reason as to why Acer’s sales of CULV thin and light notebooks have been so poor – it’s all the fault of Dell and HP, because they’re selling mainstream notebooks far too cheaply in the US market. Talk about playing the blame game.

IT APPEARS THAT Nvidia has found a way to make its Ion 2 chipset work with Intel’s upcoming Pineview Atom processors. Reportedly, Acer is the first Nvidia partner to have placed orders for Ion 2, although it’s not yet clear what devices the new chipset will go into.

ALTHOUGH THE UNWASHED MASSES might not be aware of Intel’s upcoming refresh of its now nearly two year old Atom N270 and somewhat faster N280, those in the know have been waiting for the Atom N450 for a good few months already. However, it seems like we won’t see any netbooks powered by the new processor until early next year, as Intel has decided to make sure that none of its partners will launch products before the 10th of January 2010, according to Digitimes.

INTEL HAS FINALLY done what we had all expected it to do, and pulled the plug on the consumer version of Larrabee. In a statement today, Intel said that the chip will be a development platform and an HPC part, but there will be no retail version, at least not any time soon.

SISOFT SANDRA 2010 was just released, and the big news is that it now has OpenCL based GPGPU benchmarks. They look to be a fairly well rounded and test both compute capabilities and I/O.

WORD JUST IN from the far east says that TSMC may have canceled its 32nm process node. On the surface this might seem very bad, but it is much more nuanced than that.
