Elpida shows the world a working 30nm process

4GB DDR3 SO-DIMMS are about to hit prime time

Much to chagrin of graphics chip Etch-a-Sketcher’s everywhere, Elpida is rolling out its new DRAM chips on a 30nm process.  Sampling of certain 4GB DDR3 SO-DIMM modules has already begun, and large-scale availability of these minified silicon marvels is expected in Q1 2011.  Benefits of this process enhancement are good for everybody as chips will be smaller, cheaper, larger, and faster and consume less power to boot.

For its next gen notebooks

RUMOURS ARE STARTING to come in that Apple is considering dumping Nvidia graphics on its entry level notebooks in favour of Intel’s new integrated graphics in the upcoming Sandy Bridge processors. Considering that Apple has to move away from Nvidia’s chipset if it’s planning to bring its entire line of notebooks to the Sandy Bridge platform, then Apple doesn’t have much choice.

THE MUCH RUMOURED and anticipated Google Nexus S has finally been unveiled by Google, alongside the even much more anticipated release of Android 2.3. Only in China for now

IT DIDN’T TAKE long for Nvidia to announce its first mobile GeForce 500-series part and the GeForce GT 540M is what brings its mobile GPU’s forward a generation, or does it? Considering that pretty much all of the specifications are the same as the GeForce GT 435M, bar some adjustments in clock speed, this seems to be yet another rebrand to please its OEM partners, albeit this time it appears to be a China exclusive.

Asus unveils three new U-series notebooks

The U31, U36 and U41

EARLIER TODAY WE attended the launch of three new U-series notebooks from Asus and with the U-series being Asus’ “super mobility” series of notebooks, our expectations were set fairly high, especially after yesterday’s leak of the U36. To be fair, the U36 didn’t disappoint in the flesh, but the other two models, the U31 and U41 are fairly run-of-the-mill models considering the category Asus has placed them in.

Nokia and others seek to make smart phones less stupid

George Orwell tosses and turns in his grave

For all the marvelous feats that modern “smart” phones can perform, I am constantly amazed by the constant stupidity of my own handset.  Why, for instance, is there no option to disable the ringer during a calendar event for a class or meeting?  Why does it tell me I have 300,000 updates to install and not give me a single button to “Install All”?  Why does it not have a telescoping handle and constant vibrate mode for impromptu back-rubs? Luckily it would appear that Nokia and other developers for iToys and RoboPhones are working on fixing at least some of these important issues.
