SEAMICRO IS A STARTUP that is attacking data center power use through a novel idea, optimizing hardware for a specific workload. For web serving workloads, the idea is simple, cram 512 Atom servers into a box with a virtual ‘shared nothing’ configuration.

AMD HAS ANNOUNCED a rather unusual graphics card for the workstation market today, namely the ATI FirePro RG220 with support for dual display remote desktop support. This is done with the help of a thin client and the PCoIP standard. The card also supports dual screens on the local system and can as such support multiple users on the system at once.

SSD CONTROLLERS USUALLY have one winner per generation, and it looks like this time Sandforce is the dominant player. The company released two new controllers today, and set a few records with them for good measure.

YOU MIGHT NEVER have heard of a company called HuperLab and we’re not going to hold that against you, but HuperLab is one of the biggest OEM/ODM solution providers of PC based DVR solutions and “intelligent video surveillance systems”. The company has now teamed up with ASRock to create a couple of custom DVR motherboards with some unusual features.

DURING THE INTEL Storage Solution Forums yesterday, the company was keen to point out that from next year we’ll see widespread adoption of 10Gbit Ethernet in the server environment. The main reason for this coming uptake in 10Gbit Ethernet according to Intel is that it will launch a transceiver that will be implemented on server motherboards, rather than needing an add-on card.

The products range from home users to small business and all the way to the corporate sector.
