THE INSANELY FEATURE packed Big Bang Marshal motherboard from MSI is nearly ready, at least judging by pictures of what should be the final revision of the board that we got our hands on. However, thanks to Intel’s SATA snafu we’re fairly certain that MSI will sit on this model until it can get its hands on the B3 stepping of the P67 chipset to avoid any returns of what is likely going to be a very expensive motherboard.

Intel’s Romley platform will be available for LGA-1356 and LGA-2011

Main difference will be memory support and PCI Express lane count

INTEL’S ROMLEY PLATFORM is set to launch sometime in the second half of this year and it will bring with it a world of confusion in the Xeon market space as Intel will be offering both LGA-1356 and LGA-2011 solutions to its partners. The main difference is that the LGA-1356 platform will support triple channel memory while the LGA-2011 platform will support quad channel memory, but it doesn’t stop there.

Jetway launches VIA Nano motherboard

Larger than mini ITX, not quite a mini DTX

JETWAY IS A COMPANY that likes to create unusual boards and its latest addition, the MVB-VX9GSM stands out not only because it uses a VIA Nano CPU and the VX900 chipset, but also because it uses a rather unusual form factor. At 190x170mm this board is what we could only describe as an extended mini ITX board, as it doesn’t quite fit AMD’s now defunct mini DTX standard despite having two expansion slots.

AMD Brazos gains traction with the motherboard makers

IF THERE WAS any doubt that AMD’s Brazos platform was going to become popular with the board partners or not, then the news that AMD has at least eight retail motherboard partners with a current total of 18 board designs on the way, should put that doubt to rest. The interesting thing here is that we’re just talking motherboard design wins here, it doesn’t include various small form factor barebone and system design wins.
